Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL), a Korean game operator, saw its casino sales slump in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the same period last year. The company reported sales equivalent to 108.26 billion won (US$95 million), down 11.2 percent from the same period last year.

The year-over-year drop in casino sales came as table game sales fell 12.7% to W94.17 billion in the three months to March 31. Machine game sales remained flat at about W14.09 billion during the period.

The group did not comment on quarterly casino sales filed on the Korea Exchange on Friday.

GKL is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea. The casino operator operates three foreigner-only casinos in Korea under the Seven Luck brand, two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.

The company said casino sales rose 4.3% year-on-year to about 41.72 billion won in March.

Table game sales rose 3.8% to about 37.1 billion won during the period, while machine game sales rose 8.6% to nearly 4.62 billion won.

GKL said its fourth-quarter net profit halved to about W6.85 billion in February. Its full-year net profit fell 3.5% to W77.74 billion in 2018.

On a month-over-month basis, GKL's casino sales in March were up 31.1% compared to February.
